Fleck and heather harde

Originally uploaded by Patrick de Laive.

We signed up for TechCrunch20 in Silicon Valley in September. 20 Startups will be picked to launch their new service. We’re working hard to finish the new version of fleck. I expect it to be ready at the beginning of September. We are preparing some major changes, based upon all feedback we’ve had over the last 9 months, and our own vision.

TechCrunch20 received 600!! submissions! They are interviewing 100 companies (semi-finalists).
Last Friday we had a conference call / interview with Heather Harde (CEO TechCrunch) about Fleck, about our new features and about if we could finish things on time. The interview was a little bit chaotic (I made a minor mistake in calculating the time difference between San Francisco and Amsterdam -it’s -9 hrs, I did +9 :) ), but I think in the end she understand what we’re up to. They are planning a new round of interviews somewhere this week…

I’m up for it!

Feest.je

We are throwing a party on the 30st of August. The reason… Well to come up with one or two… or ten.
1. We’ll introduce a new version of Fleck around that time
2. we love our new office view and like to share that
3. The Next Web was a successful international conference
4. Wakoopa is doing good
5. Twones is coming up with some good stuff
6. Because Robert is finally leaving us alone (He’s going to Japan)
7. We love to share good times and their is always time for a nice party
8. Because we registered a great domain name for it :)
9. Because we’re working with some new people at the office you should meet
10. Because We love you

The leaflet is inspired by a real invitation for a party in 1876 (that explains the horse care fee).

See you there! Sign up at Feest.je

Seedcamp, opportunity for talents

seedcampToday, Saul Klein (Partner at Index ventures and speaker of The Next Web Conference 2007) and others launched Seedcamp, a kind of European version of the YCombinators Summer Founders Program.

What is Seedcamp?
At Seedcamp Europe’s brightest and most ambitious young entrepreneurs come together to start their new startup. It starts of with 20 startup teams from all over Europe and at the end of the week 5 teams will be selected to get 50k in seed funding (for 10% of the shares) and to move to London for 3 months to work with a world class network of mentors and to build new cool European companies.

So if you are bright, talented and ambitious and want to work with the best VCs and web entrepreneurs of Europe, sign up for Seedcamp.

4th Open Coffee Meetup

This morning we had the fourth Open Coffee Meetup. We started off slowly with 6 people, so we did a round of short introductions, but while the introductions moved on, more and more people were joining us. We ended up with 15 people and a lot of new faces. After four weeks I still love the concept and I have the feeling that we are building something constructive here to help each other grow.
Again looking forward to next weeks’ meeting.

Gert Jan of DCIF, thanks for sponsoring the coffee (the four guys that already left and already paid 5 EUR; pity, next time stay as long as someone says I’ll pay : ) )

Open Coffee preperations

This morning I had coffee in De KoffieSalon and it tasted great (as ever). I’m really looking forward to the first Open Coffee next Thursday. Already 27 people signed up for the meetup (the more the better)

So what is it all about? what can I expect?
Open Coffee is about bringing people in the web scene together on an informal way, it is about showing what you’re working on, sharing new ideas, making contacts, have a nice coffee. No nametags, sorry.
It will start at 09:00 hrs and end at 10:00 on the first floor of de koffiesalon (Utrechtsestraat 130)

If you know more web savvies (developers, entrepreneurs, VCs, tech bloggers and press), invite them to join us on Thursday.

I’m looking forward to meet everybody.

Web awards for future accomplishments

Yesterday we introduced The Next Web Awards.

Have you ever heard of an Award show where companies, services and people got an Award for something they haven’t done yet?
The Next Web Awards is the first Award ceremony that will actually do that :) Isn’t that cool! From the blogrelease:

The Award ceremony will take place after The Next Web Conference on June 1st during the grand party. The Red Carpet, limos, The Next Web Award Tech Schwag Bag, industry icons, you name it…. even Ashton Kusher might show up..

The Next Web Awards is a spin-off of The Next Web Conference.
The concept for the Awards consists of two rounds: The nomination round and the voting round. During the nomination round the public can suggest their favorite service or person in one of the categories. By April 15th, the jury will have selected the nominees out of all suggestions given by the public, and as of that moment the world can vote for its favorites.

Awards can be won in the following categories:
- Entertainment (Let me entertain you!)
- Social (You and me)
- Search (Find it!)
- Disruptors (Give me your share, now!)
- Web Celeb (Who’s the (wo)man!)
- Beta & Stealth (Rookie of the year)
- Populizr (Show me the visitors)
- Company (One company, to rule them all..)

As mentioned above the Awards will honor services / companies / people based on future accomplishments. Who will be the new Steve Jobs? Which company can change the way we do business, will create the new standard, disrupt business sectors? What service or product will change the Web forever?

Why don’t you tell us! Suggest your favorite services and help them become invincible.

Cool opportunities for startups, part 1

I’m always looking for some cool opportunities to show Fleck to an audience. I believe Startups face two major problems:

1. Get funding (at least in Europe you have to do a lot more than just snap your fingers)
2. Get published (create a hype)

So as of now I’ll start a series called: “Cool opportunities for startups”. If I see an opportunity I’ll share it here. This is the first one. And why not start with The Next Web Conference. This conference is attended by web influentials only, and a lot of cool stuff is happening out there for startups.

Startup Arena, Showcases on main stage and Speedpitching sessions. That sound s cool right? Check it out.
